If you want to take a caravan upon a holiday, you have to make sure about the road laws of the country, where you are going to take it. If you happen to be in the UK, the permission to tow a trailer or a caravan upon the roads depends upon the type of license, which you have.
If your license was issued before 1 January 1997, you are entitled to tow your caravan and vehicle -- of a combined weight of 8.5 tons -- until the expiry of the license. If your license was obtained after January 1, 1997, you are qualified to tow a trailer of 750 kg.
The towing vehicle can be up to 3.5 tons.
Before you get ready to tow your caravan, you have to make sure that the vehicle, which is going to do the towing, is capable of towing it or not! It should be in good condition, because a towing vehicle, which is not in good condition, is going to be a hazard to the people on the road as well as to the driver and passengers of the vehicle.
It is necessary that you check up on your insurance policy as well as the tow bar before you go out on the road. The tow bar should be up to specifications and must be able to pass the new standard called Euronorm. Always remember that before you start to drive about on the road, you need to practice a little bit of coupling and uncoupling of your caravan.
